Author Spotlight on Yours Truly

Posted by

I was excited to see this on Guess What Books’ Facebook page this morning! Thought I’d share it with you, since I often showcase other authors here but don’t often mention much about myself (except, of course, when I go on and on about my own books;)

Guess What Books: This week’s #AuthorSpotlight is on Author Shana Gorian. Ironically, we met on FaceBook but later found out that we live in the same town. Small world. 😉

SHANA, SHARE ONE FUN FACT ABOUT YOURSELF:
My series (Rosco the Rascal) is based upon a dog, but most of my life I spent as a ‘cat person’ (one who favors cats over dogs). It was only as an adult at age 40 that I first became a ‘dog parent’ – and I’ve never looked back! (Although I won’t lie – I still adore cats, too.)

WE ALL SEEM TO HAVE A FAVORITE PLACE TO WRITE. DESCRIBE YOURS:
My favorite place to write is at my computer in my home office, a small portion of our game room and hallway! It may sound boring, but to me, it is order and ‘the world at my fingertips’.

WHAT’S THE BEST COMMENT YOU HAVE EVER RECEIVED ABOUT YOUR BOOK?
That a reader said he wouldn’t be surprised to see it one day as an action-packed movie!

WHO OR WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO WRITE THIS BOOK?
I was inspired to write (Rosco the Rascal In the Land of Snow) a book that takes place in the snow by my family’s trips to the mountains each winter, and by my love of all things wintry as a child growing up in western Pennsylvania.

WHO IS YOUR ILLUSTRATOR AND WHERE DID YOU FIND HIM/HER?
I now have two illustrators. Ros Webb did all of the fun and detailed and sometimes humorous interior illustrations for my series. I found her online. And Josh Addessi (with the help of his protégé, Victoria March) created the gorgeous new cover illustrations for each of the books. He was referred to me by a bestselling author!

MARKETING IS ONE OF THE HARDEST PARTS ABOUT BEING AN AUTHOR OR ILLUSTRATOR. WHAT IS YOUR BEST MARKETING TIP?
The Rule of Seven, wherein the average consumer needs to see a product at least seven times before he or she decides to purchase it, is my modus operandi for marketing. So I try to get my books out there as often as possible, in every outlet possible, (until the series becomes a household name! A gal can dream, right?)
