Holiday Books: A Nose for Teddy

Posted by

Hello readers and writers. My latest undertaking here on Rosco’s Reading Room is to prepare to kick off my upcoming Christmas-themed release, Rosco the Rascal and the Holiday Lights (which is coming soon). I’m very excited about the new release, but I’m also finding it hard to be patient while I wait for all of the proverbial i’s to be dotted and t’s to be crossed. So, while the hard-working talent that designs my covers, illustrates my interior black-and-white images, and formats my document for paperback and ebook finish up, I’ve been keeping busy browsing other children’s holiday books. And since I found so many that looked so good, I decided to ask these authors if I could feature them here.

Fortunately, I received many resounding Yes’s! So get ready to see lots of new holiday books in the coming month. Some are picture books, some are chapter books, and some are middle grade books. All of them have to do with one of the end-of-the-year holidays. Most are written by independent authors like myself. Today’s will be the first, and this one’s for Christmas.

Just released in November 2018, A Nose for Teddy, written by Tracy Kushwaha and illustrated by Denny Poliquit, is a delightful picture book published by Two Girls and a Reading Corner. It is geared towards children ages 4 to 8. Read below for a short sample of the book.

Teddy had seen better days. His fur had gotten thin and his nose gone.

He still holds on to hope that this Christmas will be different than other Christmases in the past. This year, he will be played with once again and he had a special feeling about it. Christmas is a time for miracles; even toys know this.

The years passed, Christmases came and went. Alice grew tall. Teddy’s fur grew thin. Alice moved Teddy to a shelf, then to the attic to live with the other old toys.

Teddy now spent his days watching the outside world pass him by, waiting for the day when he would be taken down and played with again.

Teddy stood and knocked off the dust that had settled on his fur.

Catching a glimpse of himself in the mirror, he realized time had not been kind to him.

His fur had bald patches, his stuffing was lumpy–and his nose was gone. “Alice can’t see me like this. I have to find a new nose!” he thought.

Maybe he would find something in the sewing room.

“Oh! If only I could remember the way.” He thought for a minute.

“Oh, yes. I remember now.” Down the long, dark hall he plodded, intent on finding a nose.

In the sewing room, he found a jar of buttons. Pouring them out, Teddy admired them. He had never seen so many beautiful buttons. (For more, check out the links below.)
