Here’s the listing for the event with more information:

Join us for an afternoon of award-winning kids books and brews at Second Chance Beer Company! (Sorry kids, brews for 21+ only! ๐Ÿ™‚ (North County San Diego area)

Local authors Danielle Soucy Mills, Shari Tharp, Shana Gorian (and more!) will be reading their award-winning stories on top of fun activities, a kids play area, and even a “back stage” game area for adults.

DRINK A BREW OR TWO FOR AN IMPORTANT CAUSE! 20% of all beer sales from 2-5pm will be donated to Lucile Packard Foundation for Children’s Health in honor of Katherine the Brave and DIPG cancer research.

Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma, an aggressive form of pediatric cancer currently has 0% survival rate and receives no government funding.

Katherine “the Brave” King was diagnosed with DIPG on June 2, 2015 and lost her battle a year later at the age of 7. Kind-hearted, full of life, and always wanting to help others, Katherine’s light burned out too soon, but her legacy shines on as Katherine’s family is dedicated to helping find a cure..because ALL kids diagnosed with DIPG deserve a Second Chance at life.

For more information please visit:

We will also be raffling off a whole lot of cool things (signed books, gymnastics leotard, Feat by Aly Raisman socks and more) in which 100% of the proceeds will go toward helping to find a cure for DIPG.

About the authors:

Danielle Soucy Mills is author of #1 best-selling book Tina Tumbles which was first “kickstarted” into publication on April 6, 2014. (Her very first Kickstarter supporter was Jaime King, mom of Katherine the Brave, and Tina Tumbles ended up being a favorite of Katherine’s). It has since gone on to take Honorable Mention in the Readers’ Favorite International Book Awards and tied for runner up for Best Published Picture Book in the 2014 San Diego Book Awards. It has been featured in Us Weekly as a favorite of Jenna Dewan-Tatum and Channing Tatum’s daughter, Everly, and endorsed by one of America’s most decorated gymnasts, 7-time Olympic medalist Shannon Miller.

Shari Tharp is a graduate of San Diego State University and a former teacher. Her collection of books featuring a goat and tortoise, the Gertrude and Toby Fairy-Tale Adventure Series, were released during 2015 and 2016. The first book in the series won an IPPY silver medal for best illustrated ebook, and the two books that followed were featured as Amazon #1 Hot New Releases. She loves participating in local author events; come meet her and picked up a signed copy of her fun goat and tortoise books!

Shana Gorian is the author of the Rosco the Rascal series, chapter books for kids 6+ in which a sometimes rascally German shepherd uses his steadfast heroic nature to help his pals, brother and sister James and Mandy, find adventure and overcome obstacles. Shana grew up in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and currently lives in Southern California with her husband, two children, and the ‘real’ Rosco the Rascal – her fun-loving German shepherd who constantly inspires new stories. I hope to see you there!

  1. It was really fun! This Books & Brews event seems to be sweeping the country. You ought to look into it, see if there are any near you! Or start one! Or maybe at a coffee shop. Only certain breweries will have a place where all ages can hang out like this one does (there were lots of dogs too!) separate from the Over 21 area. But yes, great event. Thanks!
